Former finance director ordered to repay £75k of stolen money

Thursday 9th May, 2024

A Finance Director who defrauded her employer will have to sell her home to repay £75,000 of the stolen money.

This comes after she pleaded guilty of abusing her position to defraud her employer, Chancery Contracts Limited an electrical contracting business out of almost £400,000 in August last year.

She was sentenced to a two-year suspended jail term and 200 hours of unpaid work.

As part of sentence, she also had to carry out 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days with probation for swindling electrical services business over a five-year period.

In a position of trust, she started working for Chancery Contracts when it formed in 1992, having been a long-time friend of Brian Lewis who co-launched the business.

The 76-year-old was both the firm's financial director and company secretary.

The fraud came to light after she resigned in December 2021 and staff noticed discrepancies in the firm's accounts and found that she had been siphoning off money to an account in her name over a five-year period
