Belgian Parliament approves B2B e-invoicing adoption

Monday 5th February, 2024

The Belgian Parliament has approved the draft bill created by the Belgian Chamber of Representatives on introducing countrywide electronic invoicing.

The approved bill amends the long-standing Value-Added Tax Code and Income Tax Code of 1992 and introduces the new e-invoicing requirements.

As electronic invoicing has long been obligatory in the public sector, taxpayers in the private sector should now prepare to issue and receive e-invoices beginning 1 January 2026. According to a news item from Pagero.

To extend electronic invoicing requirements to businesses, Belgium plans to continue using the Peppol framework as it does in the public sector.

This comes after the Belgian Council of Ministers passed the second hearing on its Mandatory B2B e-invoicing draft law last month.
