Accounts assistant sentenced for £20k fraud

Monday 27th March, 2023

An accounts assistant who stole £20,000 from his employer has been given an eight month prison sentence suspended for two years and ten rehabilitation activity days.

He used his position of accounts assistant at Cartime dealership to siphon off company money. He also stole a car worth £1,700.

He had worked at Cartime since July 2017, but the offences spanned between February, 2018 and March, 2021.

The fraud came to light after the dealership’s managing director spotted 'unusual activity' in the company's bank accounts.

A review of the company's bank accounts by Barclays Bank, found a number of refund transactions had been directed to an HSBC card that he owned.

He appeared at Manchester Crown Court last Tuesday, where he said he was 'genuinely sorry' for his actions.

Recorder Fewtrell told him: "I am giving you a chance. I know you have previously been a man of essentially good character. Don't let me down." WalesOnline reported.
