Office manager jailed for £63,000 fraud

Wednesday 23rd November, 2022

An office manager who stole from the small company she worked for has been sentenced at Swansea Crown Court to 16 months in prison.

In a trusted role she was responsible for paying wages and suppliers, company accounts, filing, and general admin at MJW Electrical UK Ltd based in Port Talbot.

She abused her position to steal more than £63,000 over a seven year period.

The fraud only came to light after she left her job in October 2021, when her replacement realised the company's accounts did not balance and reported it.

The stolen money was spent on a range of everyday purchases from petrol to pet food, and the defendant later admitted she had been living beyond her means and using the company credit card to pay her way.

She also made direct payments from the company's bank account into her own, recording the transfers as items such as "fuel" or "materials" in the electronic accounting system in an attempt to hide them.

Matthew Worton, boss of MJW Electrical, said Robbins had "betrayed my trust and friendship" and he was still in shock at what she had done. Wales Online reported.
