Accounts manager stole £560,000 from food supplier employer

A chartered accountant who stole almost £560,000 from her employer to prop up her struggling food distribution company has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

She joined Westmill Foods part of Associated British Foods plc in 2011, HP Sauce, Lea & Perrins, Amoy are amongst its brands. Between 2017 and 2019 she paid invoices into her own bank account whilst working in a trusted position.

The fraud came to light after she had left the company for poor performance in 2019, when a supplier complained about not being paid.

Westmill has already taken civil action to recover nearly £800,000 from Patel in stolen funds, interest, and costs. The Evening Standard reported.

Prosecutor Sahil Sinha, said, Patel was offered a settlement to leave the company in May 2019 but chose to work her full three-month notice period when she made the final five fraudulent payments to herself, totalling more than £300,000."
