Over £6m fraud in over-invoicing scandal

According to The Guardian, one of Brazil's richest and most powerful men has been found guilty of stealing millions from Brazilian taxpayers by taking bribes and "kickbacks" from public works commissioning and hiding it in a Jersey bank account a court in St Helier ruled on Friday.

A judge ruled Maluf, 81, and his son, Flavio, created a "slush fund" to hide cash they had stolen by substantially over-invoicing on a road-building scheme.

Survey finds growth of new payment channels as the biggest challenge

An annual survey conducted by Compass Plus has revealed that the growth of new payment channels is viewed as the biggest challenge facing the payment industry today. The survey, which was carried out at the international payment, security and identification event (CARTES 2012), took in the views of more than seventy respondents including financial institutions, mobile operators, payment processors, and other industry professionals.

Serco tops FTSE 100

Outsourcing group Serco has moved to the top of the leader board after a series of new contract wins amounting to £1.4bn since the end of June, reassured investors. Shares climbed up 2.7 percent after the company said it expected to meet year end predictions.

Worries remain however surrounding difficult US market conditions.

"The negative remains the challenging US markets, where Serco is heavily exposed to defence spending and the market overall remains very difficult due to the continued uncertainty around budgets and the threat of sequestration," said Mike Murphy at Numis.
